Day 12: Travel to Rome

July 31, 2014 All roads lead to Rome! After settling into our new (very old) hotel, we took the Metro to the Colosseum. It was hard to believe we were standing in front of one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. At one time there were over 50,000 seats and 70 entrances. After a lot of photos (selfies included!) we walked to the Roman Forum. We walked on the original Roman road which is 1700 years old and stood among the Roman ruins. Our walk led us to the Pantheon, which has the largest concrete dome in the world. We all went to dinner at an fantastic pizzeria where the food kept coming until we had to say 'Stop!' To get back to the Metro station the group took a night walk to the Spanish steps and on the way saw the city fountains and monuments lit up.
