Day 13: Vatican City and free time in Rome
August 1, 2014 Today was really tiring, but awesome! At 7:50 am we took the Metro to Vatican City. It was already quite crowded. The Sistine Chapel was everything we expected and more. Cooper brought binoculars which was a good idea. Then we went into St. Peter's Cathedral. It was almost too much to take in.
Some other churches we visited that day were The Church of Mary and the Saints and Martyrs and St. John Lateran. We also went to the Circus Maximus. On the way home we stopped for gelato with some other members of the group.
Tips!
# Bring binoculars for an up-close view of the Sistine Chapel
# Dress modestly when visiting churches
# Don't wear yourself out at the Vatican museum. There's lots more to do today!
# Visit some of the lesser known churches. They are amazing
# Ride the Metro. It's a great way to get around
# Don't forget to eat gelato. Italy's is the best anywhere
