Day 18: Travel to Beaune

August 6, 2014 We had a five hour drive to the little French town of Beaune in the Burgundy region of France. When we got to the Hotel des Ramparts we were shown to our rooms and then most everyone congregated in the lobby for free wifi. After a a quick tour of Beaune we went to the Hotel Dieu, a hospital that was in use from medieval times to the late 1900s. After almost losing Cooper in the museum, we headed back to the hotel for a free wine tasting in the cellar. It reminded Marilyn of a hiding place for runaway French aristocrats during the French Revolution (she is obsessed with this historical period!). After the tasting we had a good dinner of sausage, real French fries ( ;-)  and escargot. We tried to order our dinner in French and did pretty well! Afterward we took an evening walk through the town.

Tips!

# Parle vous Francais? It will make you very popular here!

# Walk around the city at night. The lights are very pretty here and the town is peaceful

# Have you ever tried escargot? This is the place to do it
